The Singita Grumeti Fund and BRAVE will host an all-women, five-day, 90km run across the wilderness areas of Singita Grumeti’s private concession in the Serengeti to raise funds for girls and women’s empowerment programmes.
The event will take place from 19 – 24 October 2018, with 20 runners taking part to raise awareness about the challenges facing girls and women living in nearby communities. Participants will engage with local girls and learn about Singita Grumeti Fund’s anti-poaching strategy, including a visit to the canine unit and the opportunity to meet the anti-poaching team.
The running safari includes five nights in privately hosted, luxury tented accommodation at Singita Explore. The event forms part of Singita’s new collection of conservation safaris called ‘Safaris With A Purpose’.
India Baird, founder of BRAVE, says: “Being a part of this first ever BRAVE-Singita Grumeti Fund run will change the face of conservation in this areas by creating opportunities for girls to become leaders in the field.”
A portion of the guest donation will go toward the Singita Grumeti Fund’s conservation work in the Serengeti, while the other portion will help to create opportunities for local girls to become conservation leaders.
Rates start at $5,665pp and athletes will be asked to make a $15,000 donation per person to directly contribute to girl and women empowerment and leadership programmes run by the Singita Grumeti Fund and BRAVE. Registration opens on 15 May – email Katherine Cunliffe for enquiries. To view the e-brochure, click here.
