Total tourist arrivals break the 10million mark in 2016

Total tourist arrivals grew by 12,8% in 2016 when compared with 2015 arrival figures, breaking the 10 million mark with 10 044 163 arrivals compared to 8 903 773 in 2015.

Overseas arrivals fared well, with 18% growth (2 531 046 in 2016 compared to 2 144 988 in 2015)

The graph below shows how the Top 10 source markets performed, with Europe, the US and Brazil showing strong growth. While China performed well for the first three quarters of the year, the numbers slumped in November and December – a similar pattern seen in Indian arrivals, which may point to problems in terms of visa processing capability in the High Commissions and embassies in these countries.
